Lo1: Be able to create a proposal with sample materials for an original media product to a client brief

Overview of product:

I am going to make an audio project That will be a 3 minute song in the genre of hip hop, and in the subgenre of the American trap style of rap. I want to use this as a way to improve in my musical abilities, and to also bring a larger audience to my music. The song will consist of a looped beat, chorus and a verse also including a feature from a friend that would also like to make music.

Marketing & Distribution

The song will be posted on SoundCloud and YouTube as I do not have enough traction as an artist to release music on Spotify. However if this song does gain traction or even end up on the billboards then it will be put onto Spotify, but for now it will be on SoundCloud and the music video will be on YouTube. I would also use cross platform advertising and synergies, such as live streaming on twitch or making music and putting it on my YouTube. My song could be marketed through: YouTube- I will be able to put the song on here and also the music video which could bring people into the song and my music. Plus I plan on posting other content on my YouTube such as gaming content and live streaming to hopefully gain an audience. This is a form of vertical and horizontal integrations as I will be using my other forms of media to promote my music. I chose YouTube as it is easy to access and gain an audience by creating more than one type of genre of content I will be able to advertise my brand to a huge amount of people. Soundcloud is also very useful as I am able to use my other social media like Instagram to forward my followers onto the website to stream my music. Plus the fact that I am uploading my song onto Soundcloud mean I am using below the line marketing skills to advertise my song specifically to people who like music, (Soundcloud can send your song to someone who is listening to music and it can also be put into playlists that have similar music.) This would increase the listenership of the song and make it more popular by being next to songs that have similar lyrics, beats, and vibes. Hopefully as well as this I can in some way promote my music on the radio as this will help it reach a more mainstream audience, I would do this by sending the song to different radio stations or record companies in hopes to get some attention from them. However, Soundcloud would be were the song mainly lives as that is the only place I can put it (as well as YouTube) for free. Previewing the song on social media via Instagram and twitter, At the moment my follower count is low however I do believe that as I continue I will gain more listeners and followers. Other methods could be posting the song on forums, subreddits and websites. Promoting my music on social media could spread it and make it viral as well as just promote it to my current followers and friends. Plus the song does have a chance of blowing up on tiktok if I create a funny skit or video that goes along with the song lyrics. I will advertise my song using both above the line and below the line advertising techniques, On my socials such as Instagram and twitter I will advertise my song to people who follow me and also to my friends. That is an example of below the line marketing as I am only promoting the music to the amount of people who follow me and to people who are in my target audience. If I wanted to promote using above the line skills I would have to promote towards a mass amount of people through posters or adverts that I would have to pay for.

Target audience:

My target audience are teens from 12+ to around adults that are 30, plus I’m promoting this to all ethnicities and genders. However, I believe that my mainstream audience will be males who are either mainstreamers or aspirers, within the C1, C2, D and E social grade as my product will be used as entertainment and escapism for them. Stereotypically hip hop is listened to by the black population, however, due to the fact that I’m white hopefully people with white heritage as well as ethnic heritage. will listen to me. My music is mainly going to entertain the mainstream population and isn’t for a niche market, I am hoping to be able to get my music to chart. For example: My music is mainly appealing to the Heterosexual community as the lyrics are stereotypical rap lyrics as they talk a lot about women and materialistic things. This is known as the repetition and difference theory by Steve Neil, my song does not subvert any genre role as I wanted to create a basic stereotypical song as I haven't found my sound as of yet. The demographic of my music will be in English speaking countries mainly. As I will sing and rap in English, plus I will reference British culture and use terminology used mainly by young British teens. Finally my music is appealing to teens or young adults. The representation theory by Laura Mulvey is presented in my song many times, as I am reinforcing conventions of hip hop songs which objectifies women through my lyrics and the way I talk about women and reference the male gaze. However because of my race I will not be reinforcing the representation of black people and crime as I have not experienced that.

Purpose:

The main purpose for my song is to entertain the people who will listen to my collection of music, plus, it is to also promote my SoundCloud and my friends SoundCloud (Ellis) who also wants to do music in the same style as me. I also want to try this out to see if I could continue rapping or if I should just continue producing beats. Another purpose would to learn and get better at using specific software such as FL studio, Logic XL and maybe audacity.

Main objectives:

To promote my music and grow my SoundCloud and YouTube numbers. Also I am hoping that this song can act as the beginning of my music career as I am wanting it to be a professionally made song that is fully created, mixed and mastered by me.

Competitions:

There are many rappers in Doncaster such as Big perm but they mainly do drill while I will do more American inspired music. However as a producer there are also many who sell beats to other artist and as a solo producer who wants to create my own beats and beats for other artists I need to figure out a way I can stand out from my peers.

Proposed content:

The genre will be a hip hop and rap song which will consist of fast and slow flows as it is 160BPM. Plus it will also have elements of miss-en-scene through flashbacks and different flows. Some of my lyrics will focus around my job and my mental health. This is because I wanted the song to be both a hard catchy song while also having some lyrics in it that people my age could relate towards. I will also use pop culture references that call back to childhood shows and movies and also comedic bars that references anime or memes. Due to the fact that I want the song to be relatable and funny to the audience. While as of writing this they still need some work however I’m sure they will be finished in time for recording. Also, I will also have a featuring artist called Ozone who has a verse on the song I am hoping his bars can relate to the theme of the song and that he’ll keep up with the fast paced nature of the song. Hopefully I can add some sound effects into my song weather they’re memes or or sounds that intricate into the song well. This will make my song more engaging and funny as I am hoping to have funny bars in my lyrics along side the sound effects. Song will have a chorus which will be a fast flow that will hook people into the song hopefully while the verse and guest verse will focus more on spacing out and trying different flows. My song will follow Steve Neale's genre theory of repetition and difference, As while I do conform to the Hip-Hop genre by making a very stereotypical rap song. The songs lyrical value really holds no wait apart from minor lines. Plus, the beat is very ordinary and in the style of Playboicarti which right now is very popular. I will also be using the Narratives theory about unconventional narratives and  the narrative structure of a story. This is because my structure of story writing in my song is very non-linear and off topic, this is because I go off topic in my song quite a lot and prefer to make lyrics that don't have progression.

Resources and personnel:

My goal is to become an artist who produces, song writes and raps. So I will need to be highly creative, skill full, a good communicator and most of all I would need to know people. However for a song that I don’t produce I would need to either find a free beat on YouTube or buy one from a producer I know. I would need a sound engineer for the finishing touches too as they would properly mix and master everything to make sure it all sounds well. My responsibility would be finding the beat, writing lyrics and finding an artist that would want to feature.

Job roles in the music industry.

The music producer would be me as i have created the beat that is being used in the song. The two artists on the song will be me and my friend ,Ozone. We are hoping to both rap on the song in our own unique style but also not to differ our sounds as to make the song sound bad. To complete the mixing and such we would need to hire a sound engineer who will finish the product. The software I would need in order to create the song are Fruity Loops studio and Logic Xl as they can both be used to record lyrics or create beats. Equipment such as a studio room, a mic, a headset and a PC are all needed to ensure we can create the song.

Equipment and resources that are needed for the making of the song

.mic

.PC

.headphones

.software such as Logic Xl

.social media in order to promote the song

.studio room for recording the vocals

Sample material:

I will be using for my sample material a clip of the beat that has no lyrics, a clip that will have lyrics and also a picture of the lyrics from my notes, they are shown below

Genre Theory

1. Steve Niele, Repetition and difference. My song will stereotype the rap genre as I talk about very similar lyrics as to mainstream rap. This is because as an artists I have no real vision yet however I am wanting to try different things but want to start of with a simple song
